Another Silbermann Takes the
Scooper
San
Rafael CA - April 20, 2005 -
In a move that surprised even
food industry insiders, Daniel
Silbermann has assumed
control of the business established
by his parents 39 years ago
and operated by his brother
for the last 16 years.
In
1966, Alfred and Ilse Silbermann
took over the Swensen's location
in Northgate One - and their
first son, Curtis, was born.
In 1989, the Silbermanns incorporated
the store in the family name,
the parents retired, and Curtis
took over the operation.
Second
son, Daniel, graduated from
Terra Linda High School, then
the Naval Academy, and flew
jets for the Navy and the Air
Force. This year Daniel and
his wife, Christy, are expecting
their first child, a son, and
are taking over the family business.
In
anticipation of increased sales
to businesses, restaurants,
clubs, and teams, and the expansion
of wholesale operations, unique
ice cream novelties, and catering,
Daniel has added an ice cream
maker, as well as another manager
to help run the store and provide
marketing support.
Alfred,
Ilse, Curtis, and his wife,
Christina, are still available
to consult in their areas of
expertise. Meanwhile, sister
Sonja, youngest of the three
siblings, has returned to help
manage the store and increase
production of retail, wholesale,
ice cream cakes and pies, and
novelties.
Curtis
is retiring on April 30 to begin
a new career. On July 9, Silbermann's
will begin the year-long celebration
of its 40th anniversary making
outstanding ice cream, sundaes,
shakes, sodas, malts, floats,
and freezes in San Rafael and
selling its products throughout
the North Bay.
